You cannot apply yesterday’s methods to-day and be (in) business tomorrow. The need to obvious especially for the agriculture predominant in rural economy with its major component of agriculture, to keep the wish the brisk changes, characteristics of modern times. Thus an agency is required to bridge the gulf between the research workers and the people at large, to plug a dual role of interpreting the results of research to the farmers, in such a way that they accept and adopt the recommendation, as well as of conveying the farmer’s problems to the research station for a solution. The agency is termed as “extension” and the personnel managing the agency/organisation are called “extension workers”

To be successful an extension workers should know not merely “what” to teach but “how” to teach people.
